Child & Family Services, Inc. EFS Young Adult Peer Mentor in New Bedford, Massachusetts

Job Description

New Bedford, MA: Work as part of the Empowering Families for Success (EFS) team to complete the assessment process with young adults, up to age 21, who are looking for EFS services. S/he will report directly to a member of the EFS’s leadership team.

Schedule: Flexible scheduling M-F 10am-6pm- must be flexible to accommodate potential weekends per family requests

Qualifications:

  • A Young Adult Peer Mentor is a part-time employee who has lived experience in coping with a serious mental health condition and is comfortable sharing their successes and experiences with peers. An Associates or Bachelor’s is preferred.

  • YAPM certification or are a certified Peer Specialist.

  • Will consider someone who is serious about completing training within a year.

Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet the agency’s needs

  • Have personal knowledge of mental illness via their own lived experience with recovery

  • Comfortable working with clients who have severe mental illness and/or are experiencing crisis

  • Understanding of boundaries when sharing personal experiences

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed

  • Comfortable facilitating groups

  • Collaborate with the EFS clinical team to provide individual support, with weekly contact, to young adults who choose to engage with a Peer Mentor

  • Participate as needed in treatment plan teams and other meetings, as requested by young adult

  • Assist EFS team in partnering with, engaging, and retaining young adults in necessary services. (This may include providing transportation to meetings when needed and appropriate.)

  • Assist Family Partners in collecting and sharing information about community resources, with focus on young adult resources

  • Other duties as needed
