ATHENA places a high value on customer service, accountability and getting the job done. POSITION SUMMARY: We are currently recruiting for a Cemetery Maintenance Worker. The Cemetery Maintenance Worker will support the Department of Public Infrastructure and prepare graves for burial of deceased, maintenance of cemetery grounds, and related duties as assigned. This full-time position pays \$16.00 per hour and is located in New Bedford, MA. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Digs and backs graves; sets up graves with artificial grass and lowering device. Using riding mowers, gas-powered lawn mowers, weed-eaters, jackhammers, chainsaws, gas-powered snow blowers and various hand tools. Cuts, trims, and preforms general care of lawn areas. Prunes and trims overgrown brush. Shovels snow. Assists with the maintenance and repair of highway system. Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community and working relations. This position is deemed essential personnel and must report to work during emergency situations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Good verbal, written, and listening communication skills within the English language. Proven, high quality customer service (internal and external customers). Ability to work collaboratively. Solid ability to analyze situations carefully and adopt appropriate courses of action. Ability to understand and adhere to the duties, methods, and procedures required by the position. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize tasks. Knowledge of the use of tools and equipment required to perform job duties and applicable safety precautions. Work independently with minimal supervision. Respond to calls for emergency work seven days a week/twenty four hours a day. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent 1-3+ years of groundskeeping / ground maintenance experience. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Work is performed mostly outdoors; hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate tools and various types of equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, prolonged visual concentration, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally exposed to adverse weather and other unpleasant conditions, such as heat, cold, wetness and humidity, dust, odors, noise, vibrations, and heavy machinery. The employee must frequently lift and/or move in excess of 50 pounds.
