Director/Pharmacy, overseeing BID-Needham and BID-Milton
Job Summary: The Director of Pharmacy is responsible and accountable for management and leadership of the Pharmacy Department. The Director oversees the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of programs and processes to provide necessary patient care services using appropriate resources. Inherent in the role is active involvement and leadership in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care and improve service. Additionally, the Director is responsible and accountable for setting care and performance standards to ensure that identified patient care needs and regulatory requirements are met and/or exceeded. The Director actively develops and monitors financial pharmacy data and prepares rationale for budget development and variance explanations.
The Director reports to the Vice President, Operations, and collaborates with the Chairperson of the Pharmacy Committee to ensure quality, cost effective patient care.
Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and management of the Pharmacy department and interacts with all appropriate personnel to ensure that all services are consistent with hospital and national standards.
Maintains twenty-four (24) hour accountability for pharmacy services.
Implements processes and programs to ensure patient focused care and services are delivered.
Develops and sustains an environment that supports clinical excellence.
Designs and implements a monitoring system to effectively track and prevent actual and potential adverse medication events.
Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: None
Has full responsibility for planning, monitoring and managing department budget.
Required Qualifications:
Doctoral degree required in Pharmacy.
License required: Pharmacist
5-8 years related work experience required and 5-8 years supervisory/management experience required
A PharmD degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy (or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy for those that graduated prior to the PharmD requirement) is required. Master¿s in Business Administration, Hospital Pharmacy Administration or the equivalent degree or relevant experience is required.
Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in managing professional pharmacy staff
Experience with Computerized Physician Order Entry
Experience with Meditech

Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
