Grade: 13

Pay Range: $96,089 - $172,935

Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.

Location: Hybrid within MA, NY, CT, VT or RI

Purpose/Objective :

Provides management, training and mentorship for Business Banking credit team including structuring and approving credit exposure for new and existing relationships. Assists with the management of the credit process to ensure consistency with Credit Policy and established underwriting guidelines. Supports Business Banking Teams to deliver credit products to clients. Ensures a strong credit culture and an efficient and effective approval process. Balances a strong asset quality focus while supporting a strong business development effort.

Key Accountabilities :

  • Manages and mentors a High Performing, Inclusive Credit Teams. This includes ensuring effective LOB partnerships and active participation in relationship strategy reviews, and ongoing mentoring, coaching and development of credit officers and underwriters. Participates in the annual goal setting process and communicates those goals to the credit teams throughout the footprint.

  • Loan Authority – Exercise loan authority within established limits. Loan authority may be up to $3 million and will be based on experience level and size and scope of assigned credit portfolio and will also vary based on type of credit request (e.g., “new money to new client,” annual review).

  • Supervises assigned teams of Credit Officers and underwriters and ensures smooth interaction and consistent workflow in the credit approval process.

  • Loan Structuring – Responds promptly to transaction requests to determine feasibility and nature of analysis to be conducted. Identifies critical issues. Makes Proceed/Stop decision within approval limits.

  • Credit Decision – Ensures effective Credit and RM collaboration to determine appropriate financing solutions. Approves/Declines and notifies RM and team members as warranted. Consults with senior Credit management on complicated transactions.

  • Asset Quality Standards – Closely monitors all asset quality measures. Ensures timely identification of deteriorating credits. Promotes a credit culture based on strong asset quality. Ensures accurate and timely risk rating of the assigned portfolio.

  • Best Practice Sharing – Keeps abreast of industry and market trends and communicates these trends to Credit Executives where appropriate.

  • Ensures compliance with all banking laws, rules, regulations, and prescribed policies/practices/procedures necessary to reduce risk and uphold ethical standards related to and required by one’s duties.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field or equivalent experience

  • MBA Preferred

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis or risk underwriting in the banking industry

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience preferred

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of financial statement analysis with ability to support underwriting of extensions of credit within the Business Banking portfolio

  • Ability to provide training, mentoring, and coaching to junior analysts

  • Ability to prioritize and work under pressure

  • Flexibility to work on both CRE and C & I credits

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong written/verbal communication and organizational skills

  • Solid interpersonal skills
