About the role:
The Software Development Director will lead the development and DevOps for the Empower Solutions Portfolio. This position will have 6-8 direct and up to 100 indirect reports.
A primary responsibly will be positioning the organization for growth, particularly in the cloud domain – identifying the necessary skills, talent locations, and building additional development teams from the ground up.

Direct and oversee the software engineering function in developing, releasing, and maintaining on-prem and cloud applications according to business needs.
Translate the portfolio roadmap to capabilities and resource capacity, identify such gaps, develop and execute a plan to fill them.
Coordinate the development execution and assign teams to work based on capabilities and roadmap priorities.
Develop an outsource/insource strategy and build new cloud software development teams from the ground up.
Oversee the development process and track progress towards portfolio OKRs (Objectives and Key Results).
Hit delivery objectives with a high degree of accuracy.
Ensure the development teams adhere to engineering practices defined by the Chief Engineer.
Ensure the development teams adhere to the Quality process.
Identify opportunities for execution efficiency improvement.
Develop operational and capex budgets.
Mentor and help develop delivery-oriented skills in the staff.
Interview, hire, onboard, and regularly evaluate lower-level management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant field
At least 10 years of experience in software engineering
At least 5 years of managerial experience
Proven experience with delivery of software products on time
Experience with budgeting, planning, and execution of all aspects of a software development organization
Experience with cloud software engineering
Experience working with remote outsource teams
Experience with building teams from the ground up
Experience with Agile Scrum software development
Experience leading teams through the resolution of issues critical to customers
Experience with planning large projects and obtaining reasonably accurate estimates from teams
Ability to influence and motivate others
Ability to solve complex problems
Ability to convert strategy into deliverables
Excellent communication and presentation skills
