Sartorius has an outstanding opportunity for a motivated Environmental Health & Safety Manager to make an impact within our Marlborough, MA facilities.

As the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager, you will ensure a safe and compliant workplace by managing EHS systems, identifying and mitigating workplace safety risks, minimizing environmental impact and manage risks. Through work process analysis, assessments, and continuous improvement, you will lead corrective and preventive actions.

What you will accomplish together with us:

  • Prioritize and drive EHS activities, develop observation-based safety programs, and continuously improve site environmental, health, and safety in line with regulatory requirements and Sartorius corporate standards.

  • Advocate for and improve safety programs, driving necessary changes.

  • Support multiple facilities located in Marlborough, MA for various work-centers (GMP Manufacturing, GLP Services, R&D, etc.), including biosafety-level work (BSL-1, -2, and -2+)

  • Provide technical expertise in EHS compliance, risk management, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and other EHS programs as required.

  • Establish and lead incident investigation team to identify root causes and develop countermeasures to prevent adverse reoccurrences.

  • Collaborate with HR, local managers and healthcare professionals to manage return-to-work programs and workers' compensation claims.

  • Facilitate the site’s observation-based safety program and conduct safety, ergonomic and risk assessments.

  • Oversee Process Hazard Analyses and maintain environmental programs (air, water, hazardous waste, etc.).

  • Oversee EHS training programs, such as Hazard Communication, Emergency Procedures, Biosafety, and Bloodborne Pathogens, for initial onboarding of employees and annual refreshers.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in collaboration with local leadership.

  • Assist in the annual review of safety program policies and plans (i.e., Biosafety Manual, Exposure Control Plan, Chemical Hygiene Plan, etc.).

  • Ensure local regulatory permits are kept up-to-date and committees have appropriate representation (i.e. Institutional Biosafety Committee, recombinant DNA permits, etc.).

  • Manage environmental permits and EHS records.

  • Establish and perform change management reviews for product development, facility modifications, and equipment installations.

  • Gather and report EHS data to the required stakeholders.

What will convince us:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a technical field (chemistry, biology, environmental, safety, etc.) with training in core Environmental, Health and Safety disciplines is preferred.

  • OSHA 30-hour certification.

  • 3+ years' experience working at an ISO 9001 facility, and within GMP cleanroom environments.

  • 3+ years' experience with Process Safety Management.

  • 3+ years' experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

  • 3+ years' experience with EHS regulatory compliance, project management, and problem-solving, with the ability to work independently or in teams.

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) is a plus.

  • Physical demand lifting 30 to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

  • This position may require working flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.

  • The role involves physical activity, such as standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy objects.
