This position is an exciting and new opportunity to work with Medtronic’s Patient Monitoring, Respiratory Interventions and/or MCMS businesses. Currently part of Medtronic, Medtronic has announced its intention to transition these businesses either into a new stand-alone company (currently referred to as NewCo) or merge them into the business of another company. While you will start your employment with Medtronic, upon establishment of NewCo or upon the transition of the business unit to another company, which may occur in approximately 12-15 months, your employment may transfer to one of these entities.

The business will have the same singular focus, financial commitment, deep domain expertise, and global footprint needed to accelerate the development and commercialization of affordable and scalable healthcare technologies.

A Day in the Life

The Value Stream Manager (VSM) reports to the Director of Supply Management and is a strategic partner to contract manufacturers. The VSM will be responsible for leading the Access Product Value Stream to achieve required business results. The VSM ensures products in the Access Portfolio are manufactured with the highest level of quality in a safe and timely manner that meet or exceed customer expectations. The position is responsible for coordinating all Product Value Stream functions including suppliers, purchasing, supply chain, manufacturing engineering and quality.

  • Provides project management and sourcing expertise to cross-functional, cross-divisional teams.

  • Facilitates these teams in the development and execution of long-term strategies that will optimize Newco’s position in terms of quality, cycle/response time, technology, risk, and total cost.

  • Mitigates risk, leverages technology and purchase power, improves processes and systems, and reduces overall cost of ownership and acquisition.

  • Negotiates, establishes and monitors supplier agreements.

How will you make an impact?

The Value Stream Manager is directly responsible for overall performance of the Value Stream including safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and cost. This position and the Value Stream Team serves as liaison and relationship builder to internal customers in Design, Product Management, Sales, and Operations to create value across the organization that focuses on improving the customer experience. This VSM provides leadership guidance that ensures planning, sub-tier suppliers, sourcing, design transfers, quality and logistics functions are effective in enabling the Value Stream to achieve customer focused and financial goals. The VSM drives the implementation of design transfers, supply chain consolidation, alignment of cross-functional objectives and alignment of resources responsible for eliminating waste and improving flow throughout the Value Stream.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides guidance, direction and leadership to insure that products are manufactured with the highest level of quality in a safe and timely manner that will meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Conducts fact-based analysis using lean techniques to create value and manage to a future state Value Stream that eliminates waste and drives continuous process improvement related to safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity.

  • Builds strong alliances across all functions and is strategic liaison to product management, quality, R&D, and operations to meet organizational commitments.

  • Mentors and develops direct reports and entire Value Stream Team. Listens, supports, engages and encourages employee suggestions and input to achieve excellent results.

  • Establishes goals, sets priorities and coordinates all related activities within the Value Stream to ensure drive and focus toward meeting or exceeding established common business objectives.

  • Monitors, reviews, and improves manufacturing and quality related activities and drives corrective and preventative actions. Focuses team on using standardized work practices.

  • Oversees and manages Value Stream expenses to meet budgets and financial objectives and proactively seeks opportunities to drive improvement of the operating results.

  • Responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels, scheduling and organizing work assignments within the company policies and procedures.

  • Leads strategic Monthly / Quarterly Operations Reviews (MOR’s) with suppliers to align on priorities, communicate performance and coordinate resources. Identifies gaps and implements countermeasures.

  • Performs other duties and cross training as assigned.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or engineering strongly preferred.

  • 7+ years working experience in a supply management/strategic procurement environment with leadership experience.

  • Strong leadership and decision making ability.

  • Knowledge, experience or training in Lean techniques and proficient in process auditing.

  • Possess technical engineering aptitude to understand advanced level of product line knowledge.

  • Possess a continuous process improvement mindset with the ability to effectively lead and manage change.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Experience negotiating with suppliers (NDA’s, supply agreements, statements of work, etc.)

  • Medical device and/or pharma experience

  • Design transfer of components and finished goods in a regulated environment

Possess a solid working knowledge of other business functions such as supply chain, finance, engineering, manufacturing and Quality.
