MIT Lincoln Laboratory Web Developer in Lexington, Massachusetts

Our Enterprise Collaboration and Web Services (ECWS) Team provides web application and collaboration solutions in support of the Laboratory’s technical mission and its day-to-day operations. These solutions include intranet and collaboration tools, document management systems (such as L.I.S.A.), and web application development. ECWS supports the external website, Atlassian tools (Confluence and Jira), eForms, and enterprise search. The team also enables others to create Drupal websites, designs user experiences, and develops websites both internally and externally (for conferences). ECWS provides application integration with web services for many existing and new business applications. Additionally, ECWS integrates new technology capabilities, enabling Laboratory personnel to be more effective and efficient.

Position Description

Primary work activities include designing and implementing standalone and Content Management System based web sites. The Web developer will be responsible for maintaining web development standards and best practices, creating a reusable code repository and integrating social media tools into the web experience.

Architect, Design, develop and deploy web sites and applications on-time as determined by the project schedule. Create functional prototypes to demonstrate user interface effects. Work closely with application and web developers to integrate back-end systems with the front end user experience. Provide support for Laboratory web sites and projects. Assist in developing user experience design best practices with a focus on consistency and usability.

Requirements

  • Typically, a Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of experience OR a Master's Degree and 2 years of experience OR equivalent work experience in a technical or artistic discipline

  • 6+ years of relevant Web development and User Experience development experience

  • Working knowledge of multiple technologies, including but not limited to: HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, DHTML, XML, JavaScript, REACT or Angular, Node, and jQuery

  • Expertise with AJAX, and a solid understanding of current Web Standards compliance practices

  • Working knowledge of content management systems(CMS) and CMS based development, preferably experienced in Drupal

  • Knowledge of cross-browser, cross-platform implementation solutions

  • Ability to understand and interpret existing site design and style guides to inform your work

  • Excellent analytical skills, understanding of project life cycles, and ability to act in an entrepreneurial manner to ensure the software delivered matches the business communities’ needs

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced cross-functional team environment

  • Ability to design and develop software in a group or independently

  • Should be comfortable with direct communication with all levels of technical and business resources

  • Ability to handle several projects simultaneously

  • Experience working with technical, design, and product teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
