Outpatient network wide role working with the pediatric population to ensure that quality nutritional care is provided to all patients in a timely manner according to established screening and assessment standards. Develops and implements individualized nutrition care plans based on patients’ nutrition status and patient/family education needs. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the implementation of nutrition support. Documents appropriate nutrition information in the medical record.

Key Responsibilities

  • Screen and assess new patients through patient interview, referral information, and medical records within established timeframe.

  • Develop and implement Nutrition Care Plans to progress patient toward established goals in collaboration with the healthcare team and in accordance with established standards.

  • Comply with documentation department standards.

  • Edit diet orders in accordance with the clinical privileges.

  • Counsel and educate patients and/or families about prescribed diets at their level of understanding.

  • Provide food/nutrition expertise to interdisciplinary team to ensure patient and family needs are met.

  • Assist in discharge planning including education for home/community nutritional care and communication with other healthcare providers to assure a smooth transition of care when appropriate.

  • Act as a liaison between clinical nutrition and healthcare team to ensure the service and provisions are appropriate and in compliance with diet order.

  • Participate in quality improvement opportunities to meet department goals.

  • Assist in review of Enteral formulary to ensure that essential products and availability reflect consideration of current clinical practice and cost containment.

  • Update guidelines and therapeutic references relevant to nutrition care to reflect industry best practices.

  • Complete additional work activities to meet stated expectations.

Qualifications and Experience


Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition-related field.


Master’s Degree in nutrition-related field and/or advanced certification in nutrition-related field.



One year of clinical nutrition experience in pediatrics



  • Current registration with the Commission of Dietetic Registration (RD).

  • Current Massachusetts licensure (LDN).

Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)


  • Effective verbal, electronic, and written communications skills using the English language.

  • Maintains variable work schedule to provide patient care (evenings, holidays, weekends, and travel).

  • Computer proficiency with ability to learn new software.

  • Works independently; can be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.

  • Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies to address them.

  • Demonstrates initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing situations.

  • High level of attention to detail and service delivery.

  • Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills with diverse populations.

  • Proficient in use of facility-specific nutrition software and use of Microsoft office applications.

  • Bilingual Preferred
