MIT Lincoln Laboratory Patent Coordinator in Lexington, Massachusetts

Job Description

The Patent Coordinator will be responsible for day‐to‐day patent administration including the management of the technology software database, management of patent docketing, patent compliance, and reporting requirements.

Essential Functions

Responsible for responding to and determining patent case statuses and next steps Report inventions and commercialization statuses to the government per Bayh‐Dole Act, as needed Determine university obligations to sponsors based on contracts and work with sponsors to fulfill obligations Manage annuity service provider in payment of annuity and maintenance fees and provide service with reports, as needed Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to patent records or database errors Generate docket reports and assist the patent manager in meeting all deadlines Report inventions and patents to the appropriate agency within 60 days of invention Prepare licenses to the government as appropriate Create and manage a patent portfolio docket calendar Perform all other duties as assigned Train and mentor support staff as needed Supervise and train student office workers

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree 5-7 year’s experience as an Intellectual Property Paralegal Knowledge of USPTO rules and procedures Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Ability to effectively handle shifting priorities and adapt to changing demands in a fast faced dynamic environment Ability to maintain confidentiality in open work environment Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented Excellent verbal and written communication skills Education may not be substituted for the experience requirement Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently within an administrative office An understanding of and affinity for the national security mission U.S. citizenship Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

The following skills or attributes are highly desired:

Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies with concentration in intellectual property Experience as an Intellectual Property Paralegal Experience/knowledge of Bayh-Dole Act and reporting requirements for federally-funded inventions and patents
