MIT Lincoln Laboratory Mechanical Engineer-Associate Staff in Lexington, Massachusetts
The Rapid Prototyping Group focuses on partnering with groups across the Laboratory to execute rapid prototyping efforts. The group works on diverse programs, delivering new advanced technology capabilities in timelines typically under a year. This group leads and coordinates various activities: aero/optical/mechanical system design and fabrication, electronics system design and fabrication, system engineering, integration into aircraft and other platforms, and laboratory and field testing. Projects are conducted in a team environment, utilizing resources from both the Engineering Division and mission area groups to successfully execute fast-paced development and demonstration efforts.
Position Description
The Rapid Prototyping Group seeks a hands-on Aero/Opto-Mechanical engineer with broad experience in the design, modelling and fabrication of components, enclosures, optical assemblies and aero-mechanical payloads. The individual must have an understanding of integration & testing, alignment & measurement, motors & bearings, environmental ruggedization, and general actuation, mounting, and packaging of system. The engineer must have some project management skills and be able to interact with a number of subject matter experts in a collaborative team to develop complex sensor systems on a variety of platforms.
Requirements
MS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Opto-Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related area. In lieu of an MS, will consider BS degree with at least 3 or more years of related experience.
Demonstrated hands-on approach to design, fabrication, system integration, testing and troubleshooting.
Strengths in communication and collaboration with a diverse group of experts
Facility with CAD design tools, ideally SolidWorks
Familiarity with analysis tools like NASTRAN/PATRAN and optics design tools like Zemax or CODEV
