Job Description

The Facility Service Department’s (FSD) engineering team is a full-service MEP consulting engineering department, knowledgeable in the latest regulatory requirements and building codes. We provide engineering assessments, design drawings, bid documents and construction administration for a wide variety of projects from small renovations to complete laboratories. Engineering services are provided in the following areas: Architectural/Planning, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Management/Controls, and Structural Engineering.

Our Controls Engineer will provide engineering for facility projects Building Management Controls design for HVAC air and water systems, as well as for process and critical systems. This position will be responsible for the design and construction oversight of new and modifications to the existing building systems in concert with the mechanical design for offices and laboratories/cleanrooms, including building system control strategy, equipment layout and hardware selection, and commissioning/startup of the BMS system.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Controls/I&C solutions by providing drawings and specifications for the design of building HVAC management/control systems in accordance with acceptable engineering and industry practices.

  • Development of BMS control system drawings, P&IDs, I/O lists, and narratives/sequence of operations for HVAC control systems.

  • Perform field investigations of existing conditions and develop project design basis of design/approach, technical specifications, equipment selection (valve sizing, instrument specification, etc.)

  • Perform construction administration support of BMS design including submittal reviews, RFI responses, system checkout/startup, punch list, and as-built documentation.

  • Supports O&M operational facility issues with investigation and troubleshooting for BMS related issues.

  • Timely completion of projects per established workflow schedules.

  • Attends weekly team meetings to coordinate interdisciplinary design issues

  • Support Controls Discipline group with development of BMS/controls standards and specifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering with at least 5-10 years of industry related building system design experience.

  • Knowledge of building mechanical systems or control systems preferred.

  • PE Registration strongly desired or shall work toward licensure and confirm to completion.

  • Experience with DDC/BMS systems and development of building mechanical system controls design (architecture, wiring, P&IDS, sequences, etc.)

  • Experience using AutoCAD MEP, and Excel application software is required.

  • Proven ability to work successfully in a team environment, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Some fieldwork is required - must have the ability to climb ladders and work in construction areas.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance required.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Schneider building management systems (Continuum and Ecostruxure) is desirable.

  • Familiarity with Revit software is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with applicable building codes (ASHRAE, IBC, UFC and Massachusetts)
