Job Description

The Financial Services Department (F$D) is looking for a motivated individual to join the Planning and Analysis (P&A) Team. Planning and Analysis maintains, redefines, develops, and prepares meaningful financial reports, dashboards, and metrics for management decision making. The group identifies and implements financial planning and reporting processes, systems, and reporting tools, all the while coordinating with the Laboratory business community and MIT campus on budgeting and forecasting issues.

Reporting to and working with the Senior Financial Manager, P&A, the Finance Manager – Data Science and Analytics, will take the helm of a growing capability as part of the P&A team. L everaging expertise in data analysis, machine learning, visualizations and data modeling, your hands-on and managerial acumen will be pivotal to rounding out this P&A capability at the Laboratory. Identifying opportunities to extract valuable insights, build predictive models, and support informed decision-making, you will help shape the future of data science and analytics for the Financial Services Department in support of the Laboratory business and research community. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will contribute to the development of finance strategy, organizational transformation, and the management of our finance portfolio of systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

Guiding, coaching and working alongside P&A data and analytics staff; defining and building capability for:

  • Model Development: Utilize AI and machine learning techniques to develop predictive models and algorithms for forecasting financial trends, assessing risk, and optimizing investment strategies.

  • Predictive Analytics: Develop and continuously refine models for financial forecasting, risk assessment, and portfolio optimization based on new data.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with finance staff, IT managers, software developers, and business analysts to seamlessly integrate data science solutions into finance software and decision-making processes.

  • Research: Stay abreast of the latest developments in data science and technology to propose and implement innovative solutions.

  • Compliance: Ensure all data analysis, governance, and modeling activities adhere to relevant financial regulations and industry standards.

  • Data Visualization: Create clear and compelling visualizations to effectively communicate findings and insights to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Reporting & Dashboards: Create insightful reports, dashboards, and presentations summarizing findings, insights, and recommendations for senior management.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years proven work experience in the data science and analytics/visualizations space.

  • Must be ready for a hands-on managerial role. Experience building and managing a small team is desired.

  • Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and languages, such as Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud).

  • Strong understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistical analysis, financial data, and predictive modeling techniques.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex findings to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Excellent project management, leadership, and multi-tasking skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated organizational, strong analytical and time management skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex finding to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field(s) is required (Master's Degree or pursuing a Master’s Degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, or Data Science preferred)

  • Professional certifications such as CFA, CAP, or relevant data science certifications are advantageous.

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
