The Advanced Capabilities and Technologies group researches and develops high risk / high reward technology for advanced ground and satellite systems that are used for space domain awareness, space control, earth observation and scientific missions. Our work focuses on the development of novel concepts, instruments and algorithms. Projects range from laboratory-scale technology/concept development to delivery of large ground- and space-based prototypes that are transitioned into operational use. The group draws from expertise in a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, astronomy, and applied mathematics.

Job Description

Associate Staff - Engineering The Advanced Capabilities and Technologies group researches and develops high risk / high reward technology for advanced ground and satellite systems that are used for space domain awareness, space control, earth observation and scientific missions. Our work focuses on the development of novel concepts, instruments and algorithms. Projects range from laboratory-scale technology/concept development to delivery of large ground- and space-based prototypes that are transitioned into operational use. The group draws from expertise in a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, astronomy, and applied mathematics. The right individual will support development and testing of advanced orbital maneuvering algorithms to be used within a mission planning center for future agile Space Force satellites. They will also work within a team to develop test infrastructure to ensure robustness and safety of flight for maneuver algorithms. Where necessary, this role will include application of experimental data to validate on-orbit performance.

Requirements:

  • MS in Physics, Engineering, or Mathematics or similar fields, or a BS and 5+ years of experience

  • Experience with orbital dynamics and maneuver optimization techniques

  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or other modeling software

  • Creative thinking, attention to detail, and strong communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of control theory, state estimation, and satellite propulsion systems

  • Experience with cube-sats or small satellites
