Qualifications Knowledge & understanding of the complex issues affecting homeless individuals Reliable, dependable & punctual Good oral & written communication skills Good observation, awareness, documentation & computer skills Bi-lingual helpful Catholic Social Services Shelter Programs are DHCD-funded individual emergency overnight shelter program for men & women facing a housing crisis. The main focus of the shelter program is to help individuals achieve successful placement into stable housing. Additionally, Catholic Social Services connects individuals to resources that are available within their respective communities to sustain long-term stable housing. The Direct Care staff will oversee the total operations of a work shift within the shelter environment Duties & Responsibilities The Direct Care staff are responsible for ensuring the functions of the program are met while providing services that are safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable & client-centered. Ability to work as part of a team with a commitment to end homelessness Must demonstrate honesty, integrity, & professionalism at all times Must exemplify our mission in action: which is helping those in need & treating others with compassion, dignity & respect. Create & maintain a positive environment for clients, staff & service providers Ability to listen to clients & offer support, encouragement & empathy within the context of healthy boundaries Thoroughly orient new guests to the general shelter environment Maintain clear, detailed records during shift Check & enforce that all clients maintain a clean & safe living Space Must be available to the clients for support & responsible for enforcing the rules & policies of the shelter Identify & follow through with resolutions of problems that arise within the shelter Responsible for documenting log notes with any & all-important information that occurs during the shift Responsible for checking in anyone entering shelter (Clients, Guests, Visitors etc.) Conduct hourly rounds, to ensure the safety of the clients & the shelter Complete work orders for Maintenance as necessary Maintain & track shelter supplies & inventory of the food pantry Sorting & distribution of mail Attends all scheduled staff meetings Must adhere to all DHCD program requirements Responsible for filing client information as necessary Respond to inquiries, phone calls & correspondence in a timely manner Complete all tasks as assigned by the House Manager/Supervisor Additional Responsibilities Work with the Manager/Supervisor on any additional projects/matters for which he/she requests related to DHCD or the program Attend all required program trainings & assigned in-service trainings to comply with annual training requirements Comply with all safety regulations, CSS policies & adhere to agency confidentiality policy Report all safety concerns to Manager/Supervisor Mandated reporting of abuse & neglect Responsible for reporting all incidents (critical, serious or non-compliance) to the Supervisor Working Conditions The work environment described, represents what may be encountered while performing the essential functions of the job.
