GENERAL SUMMARY

Assists individuals in the areas of independent living, self-management within the community, social and independent living skills development and affective and behavioral management. Assists in development and implementation of behavioral plans and provides behavioral management and intervention as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

  • Plans and oversees participant services in accordance with Day Habilitation regulations in the areas of independent living, self-management within the community, social and independent living skills development and affective behavioral management.

  • Assists individuals in making and expressing choices based on assessments and other service need indicators.

  • Establishes and maintains rapport with individuals. Follows established behavior plans and protocols with behavioral intervention for moderate-to-high severity program participants as needed.

  • Performs tracking of an individual’s behaviors and uses the resulting information to provide statistically-significant data to the clinical team for planning and improvement purposes.

  • Intervenes in behavioral episodes; which may involve verbal and/or aggressive outbursts, as trained, as per the participant’s individual plan and as they may occur.

  • Ensures and safeguards program participant’s dignity, rights and liberties.

  • Provides physical assistance to individuals, as needed, including, but not limited to, toileting, transferring and feeding.

  • Adheres to all funding source regulations and Agency policies and procedures.

  • Keeps management abreast of planned activities, as well as, any potential program participant issues or needs which are not being met.

  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, management and community partners.

  • Complies with all record keeping requirements as established by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and Mass Health.

  • Serves as mandated reporter for suspected cases of abuse and/or neglect to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC).

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree or additional education in the field (s) of psychology, social work, nursing, or special education required.

  • Master’s degree preferred and evidence of ABA professional training.

  • Minimum of 4 years prior experience in behavior intervention.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Strong knowledge of computer software applications including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to document behavioral management.

  • Ability to physically restrain/handle aggressive individuals or individuals with behavioral needs.

  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Massachusetts required.

  • Successful completion of all state and Agency mandated trainings required upon hire.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

No supervisory responsibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequent standing, walking and bending.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to pull up or transfer individuals weighing up to 250 pounds.
