Job Description:

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Manager of Health Information Management, the position of an MR Tech – Scanning, Indexing and Retrieval is responsible for the timely movement of patient medical records, as well as converting hardcopy medical record documentation into digitized images and indexing images to correct document type, patient and encounter ensuring medical information is available and accessible for patient care, revenue cycle and third party requests.

  • Processes all requests for medical records accurately, appropriately and expeditiously.

  • Understands terminal digit filing methodology, or equivalent numeric filing system.

  • Scans all paperwork received in Health Information Management accurately, appropriately and expeditiously.

  • Manages paper and record flow in an organized manner.

  • Understands and manages electronic information flow.

  • Understands and uses department computers and healthcare systems in an appropriate and efficient manner.

  • Strictly adheres to state and federal laws on confidentiality of protected health information.

  • Adheres to Department, Hospital and Human Resource Policies.

  • Performs other duties as required and requested.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, privacy and confidentiality regulations

Education/Experience :

High school graduate or equivalent. Previous office experience, health care setting preferred Computer skills; EPIC experience desirable.
