Staples Sr. Accountant II in Framingham, Massachusetts


Position Summary

This role is responsible for the Fixed Asset & Occupancy accounting for all our U.S. locations. As this role covers multiple areas, certain work will be direct preparation while additional areas will be reviewing others work. The role will also have certain general accounting responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process for the occupancy accounting area and accounting for subtenant receivables and income

  • Prepare month-end reconciliations for all occupancy accruals; highlight concerns to supervisor on a timely basis

  • Review month-end reconciliations for fixed assets prepared by offshore accounting team

  • Assist the lease accounting area during the month-end close process

  • Act as subject matter expert in the fixed asset & occupancy accounting area

  • Prepare the annual budget and monthly forecasts for all fixed asset & occupancy accounts

  • Provide reporting and documentation to business partners and senior management

  • Participate in SOX compliance

  • Make recommendations for and execute process improvements

  • Perform and oversee special projects and ad hoc analysis as needed

  • Work quarterly with the external auditors, preparing and reviewing schedules for their testing

  • Partner with real estate lease administration, procurement and multiple other business groups to ensure adequate information is received on a timely basis

  • Complete other general accounting close tasks, as required


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting

  • Minimum 4-6 years of accounting and/or analysis experience

  • Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word

Preferred Skills

  • Public accounting experience

  • Prior month-end close responsibilities including Journal Entries and reconciliations

  • Exceptional organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently within tight deadlines and balance workload effectively while keeping supervisor informed of issues

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management

  • Previous Oracle experience

  • CPA, or progression towards certification
