Department Description :

Purification Process Development (part of Sanofi R&D) is responsible for development, scale-up, transfer, and characterization of downstream processes for early and late stage clinical and commercial manufacturing of therapeutic proteins. In addition, the department develops next-generation commercial processes, develops and implements new technologies, and supports and updates our global purification platform. The department also has particular expertise in the area of integrated and continuous bioprocessing and is actively working toward the advancement of this field.

Job Responsibilities:

We are looking for candidates for the position of Scientist, with a focus on protein purification and computational model development. This individual should be able to use scientific principles and professional practices to creatively and practically solve a wide range of problems; while ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental and regulatory compliance are maintained in the workplace.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development of robust downstream processes that can be scaled and transferred to clinical and commercial manufacturing

  • Lead the examination of novel downstream technologies for manufacturing therapeutic proteins

  • Lead development of mechanistic/hybrid model generation for purification unit operations

  • Design model-based approaches for process development to improve process understanding, product consistency, and manufacturing control

  • Develop data analysis applications to automate and improve process development workflows

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Data Science/Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields or a M.S. with at least 4 years of relevant experience or a B.S. with at least 6 years of relevant experience

  • Relevant coursework, certifications, academic experience, or industrial experience in process development, mechanistic modelling, statistical modelling, automation, and/or programming

  • Ability to work as part of a diverse cross-functional team

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong quantitative skills and analytical problem-solving ability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An understanding of scientific and engineering principles and techniques used in the production of protein therapeutics

  • Proficiency with relevant software or programming languages, e.g. MATLAB, SIMCA, gPROMS, DeltaV, OSI PI, R/R Shiny, Python, machine learning libraries

  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented

  • High level of scientific curiosity
