Advocates Family Services Navigator in Framingham, Massachusetts

The Family Services Navigator provides support to families enrolled in state funded family support programs including DESE/DDS, Agency with Choice (AWC) and Family Support Centers

Minimum Education Required

High School Diploma/GED

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with state and support agency staff, stakeholders, families, and individuals.

  • Provide support to the family and individuals in the development of program specific documentation.

  • Provide information to families on community resources, benefits and transition supports.

  • Provide family support and assistance with recruitment, hiring and administrative oversight of staff.

  • Assist families and individuals in self-advocacy, decision-making and empowerment.

  • Remain current and knowledgeable in the field of disabilities and stay informed about the needs of the families and individuals served.

  • Maintain productive internal and external communication with staff, management, and family members.

  • Maintain proper documentation/record keeping.

  • Attend trainings, supervisions and staff meetings as assigned.

  • Ensure that individuals we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates’ Human Rights Policy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as social work or psychology and at least two years of relevant experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • Strongly prefer candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.

  • Possess strong verbal and in written communication skills and good judgment.

  • Must have basic working computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word and Excel and Outlook.

  • Sensitivity to the needs of the population we support and family work.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • High energy level, superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.

  • Possess excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Must hold a valid drivers’ license. Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles and practices of individual empowerment and community integration.

  • Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Must hold a valid driver's license, have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport clients.

  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
