South Middlesex Opportunity Council Co-Director, Family Emergency Shelters in Framingham, Massachusetts

SUMMARY

This is a shared responsibility overseeing the overall programmatic aspects of the SMOC Family Shelters and ensuring that the shelters operate in accordance with its mission. The Co-Directors will work to promote a strong team approach that is Housing First centered with the goal of decreasing the length of shelter stays and increasing the rates of successful, stabile tenancies following shelter exits. This position will specifically be responsible for the supervision of the managers at Pathways Family Shelter, Gordon Street Shelter and Willis House, as well as supervising the Wellness Coordinator and Facilities Liaison.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the operational and fiscal activities of the program/department to include staffing levels, budgets, and financial goals.

  • Provide support, supervision and training to the managers of Pathways Family Shelter, Gordon Street Shelter and Willis House.

  • Work with managers to help recruit, manage, develop and evaluate staff by providing timely mentoring, thorough training and performance management.

  • Work with the Facilities Liaison to strengthen the communication with the maintenance department and improve the overall conditions of the Scattered Site Shelter units.

  • Work with the Wellness Coordinator to facilitate a smooth, quick re-entry into school for children entering shelter.

  • Endeavor to create a climate in which all staff are empowered, respected, treated with dignity.

  • Work as a part of the leadership team of the family system to create and implement best practices and update protocols.

  • Prepare all required reports, grants, etc. and attend agency-wide meetings.

  • Work closely with funders, partners and stake holders to ensure good relationships.

  • Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.

  • Attend & participate in team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.

  • Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies & procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Supervisory experience of at least 3 years.

  • Sensitivity to low-income families of diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Flexibility in schedule.

  • Valid Driver’s license, reliable vehicle and evidence of insurability.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

  • Directly reports to Division Director, Family Emergency Services.

  • Indirectly reports None.

  • Direct reports of this position are Pathways Family Shelter manager, Gordon Street Shelter manager, Willis House manager, the Wellness Coordinator and the Facilities Manager.

  • Indirect reports of this position are FES Case Managers, FES Rehousing Specialists, and Stabilization Case Managers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Program Director will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
