Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated culinary leader to join our team at Applewild School, a prestigious boarding school in Fitchburg, MA. This outstanding opportunity allows you to demonstrate your culinary expertise in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

As the Senior Chef Manager at Applewild School you will be responsible for the smooth functioning of our food service departments, overseeing both the back and front-of-the-house student dining operations. Your role will entail maintaining a high-quality culinary program, leading financial reporting, developing menus, handling inventory and purchasing, controlling labor and food costs, ensuring sanitation standards, and supervising personnel, including hiring, mentoring, counseling, training, and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate breakfast, lunch, and dinner services from Monday to Friday, and brunch and dinner on weekends, ensuring detailed execution and outstanding quality.

  • Develop and implement a 4-week cycle menu and themed lunches that delight our community.

  • Handle catering operations for weekend and evening events, successfully implementing creative and delicious menus.

  • Strictly adhere to all sanitation standards, maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment.

  • Conduct inventory and purchasing with a keen eye on cost controls.

  • Lead, guide, and develop your team to achieve world-class culinary standards.

  • Report directly to the District Manager, ensuring all financial reporting is accurate and timely.

  • Participate in employee meetings and training programs to foster a positive and motivated team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent professional experience.

  • Proven experience of five years in progressive culinary management.

  • Prior experience in an education setting preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, innovative, and capable of multitasking.

  • Proven track record of maintaining a positive attitude and motivating teams.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP controls and accurate food storage and use.

  • Experience in purchasing, food storage, and maintaining sanitation standards.

  • Strong financial competence, including experience with P&L and financial reporting.

  • Proven leadership, mentoring, and training skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and POS systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Adherence to the highest standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior.

  • ServSafe or Department of Health certification is a plus.
