What is The Arc of Opportunity’s Recreation Program?
The Arc of Opportunity’s Recreation Program provides safe and secure community-based experiences for individuals with disabilities. Recreation staff work with the individuals to encourage them to choose in which new community-based experiences they want to participate. The Arc of Opportunity’s Recreation Support program not only provides people with disabilities fun activities in the community but it is also a much-needed respite for their families. While allowing families the space to recharge and take care of other commitments, we provide support by being prepared to handle the unique challenges of caring for a person with a disability.
What does the Family Supports and Recreation Coordinator and Navigator do?
The Family Supports and Recreation Coordinator and Navigator works closely with the Program Director of Family Supports and Recreation to offer and support individuals with disabilities in-community recreation and integration. The staff will oversee and facilitate the participants in weekend recreation activities including, but not limited to, theater performances, art exhibits, festivals, and sporting events. The Family Supports and Recreation Coordinator also facilitates evening events including dances and intramural leagues for bowling. This position also works with the Program Director to provide resources to families of individuals with disabilities in other capacities. The Family Support and Recreation Coordinator plans, creates, and distributes the schedule and newsletter for the program. The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday. Attendance at mandatory trainings and meetings as assigned is required, as is maintaining all required certifications, including CPR and CPI. This individual will also complete other tasks as assigned by their supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills:
Work closely with the Family Supports Program Director in delivering service standards of excellence and ensures operational compliance within the assigned program in accordance with Federal, State and agency regulations.
Timely and accurate coding for services into electronic medical records system for billing purposes.
Provides transportation for individuals to community activities, including performing safe lifts and transfers of individuals who use wheelchairs.
Supports individuals to increase independence while safely navigating the community.
Actively advocates for individuals served and demonstrates agency mission and values in all interpersonal and professional relations.
Conducts oneself professionally in following regulations and agency policies and adhering to confidentiality requirements in all assigned duties.
Provides supports, resources and case coordination for families working in conjunction with DDS.
Must pass background checks and pre-employment screenings including a CORI.
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 5 years relevant human services work experience, preferred
Computer skills using Microsoft Office, email communication, internet, ADP payroll app, Canva, additional required technology
Knowledgeable about community resources to better assist individuals
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with program participants, fellow staff, community members, and families.
Compassionate, resourceful, and eager to learn.
Functional and situational reasoning to follow policy, problem solve, exercise sound judgment, prioritize multiple tasks, and manage crises.
Physical demands may include frequent standing, pushing, pulling, walking, stooping, lifting and/or twisting
Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicles meeting state requirements.
