Town of Falmouth Veterans' Services Director in Falmouth, Massachusetts

The Town of Falmouth seeks a highly motivated, dynamic U.S. military veteran to serve as our next full-time Director of Veterans? Services. The Director is responsible for assisting veterans and their dependents in securing veterans? benefits from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The successful candidate has strong communication, technology, and research skills, a working knowledge of state and federal veterans? benefits, and a passion for delivering excellent services to Falmouth veterans and their families. The Director works with a great deal of autonomy and will be required to develop expertise through self-directed research. The Director will be required to attend training administered by the Commonwealth Secretary of Veterans Services and, within 6 months, pass the test offered at the training. The Director of Veterans Services communicates and meets with veterans and their family members to assist them with determining eligibility for various veteran benefits and completing the benefits application process. The Director is responsible for authorizing and submitting applications for veterans benefits to the U.S. Veterans Administration and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (MA General Laws Chapter 115 benefits) and serves as a liaison with state and federal agencies on behalf of veterans and their dependents. The Director prepares and submits appeals related to veteran benefit applications and prepares reports to account for funds and to secure reimbursement to the Town from state and federal agencies. This position serves as the Burial and Graves Officer, including oversight of footstones, flags on graves, and burial markers. The Director also advises Town staff and the public on proper flag protocol and is responsible for planning and coordinating Town ceremonies for Memorial Day and Veterans? Day. Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in business administration, human services, social work, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in social work or in providing assistance to veterans; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Applicants must be a U.S. military veteran. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, community engagement, and technology skills and demonstrated project management experience. Applicants must have the ability to effectively work and interact with individuals and groups of various abilities, cultures, backgrounds, and identities. Expected Starting Range: \$78,770/year - \$90,043/year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Comprehensive benefits package, including 13 paid holidays per year; vacation/sick/personal paid time off; Town contribution of up to 75% of the cost of health insurance; cost-effective dental, vision, life insurance, and disability policy plans; enrollment in the defined benefit pension plan; and voluntary pre-tax and Roth 457(b) plans.
