Job Description:

The primary responsibilities will be leading the Mechanical engineering design on key projects/programs focused on ….

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the Mechanical design effort including vehicle level structural analysis, weights and balances,

  • Resident expert and reviewer of the vehicle hull & structure

  • Key peer reviewer of reports and drawings

  • Day to day lead, support, guidance of the mechanical engineering team on the program, mentor to junior engineers

  • Participate as the AUV structural SME in Working Group meetings, be the customer POC for certain vehicle aspects

  • Be responsible for completeness and accuracy of the mechanical aspects of program deliverables (TDPs, reports, analyses, etc)

  • Support to the Project Engineer for Mechanical Eng team task planning, status, BOEs and EACs, risk management

  • Perform trade studies as appropriate

  • Provide support to both Development and Operations teams.

  • Participate in program CCB meetings.


  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years prior relevant experience in AUV/UUV design, pressure vessels, hulls and structures, composites, DoD FAR based programs, development. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience

  • Experience leading technical projects

  • Proficient in hydrostatic, buckling, lifting analyses and FEA modeling

  • Ability to set up mesh, boundary conditions, and load analysis in ANSYS

  • Must have and be able to maintain a Secret Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience using SolidWorks PDM

  • Experience using TeamCenter

  • Experience with composites (carbon fiber), titanium, aluminim, 3D printing

  • Experienced technical writer

  • Understanding of Naval Architecture, Submarine Integration
