Description:

Part-time NP position to work in Pediatrics and also fill in primary care leaves/vacations. A nurse practitioner is a licensed independent practitioner who provides nursing and medical services to individuals, families and groups. A nurse practitioner diagnoses and manages acute episodic and chronic illnesses while emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention. Services may include ordering, conducting, supervising and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, and prescription of pharmacologic agents and non pharmacologic therapies.

Patient Care

  • Obtains a comprehensive and problem focused health history.

  • Performs a comprehensive and problem focused physical exam.

  • Provides care that is respectful, culturally appropriate, and compassionate.

  • Orders and interprets screening and diagnostic tests.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making.

  • Communicates with patients regarding clinical findings.

    Medical Knowledge/Technical skills:

  • Formulates plans based on scientific rationale, evidence-based standards of care and practice guidelines.

  • Initiates appropriate and timely consultations. (with NP, PA and physician colleagues, and other)

  • Applies research studies pertinent to area of practice and applies theories to guide practice.

  • Recognizes environmental health problems affecting patients and their families.

  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to medical emergencies.

    Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

  • Provides guidance and counseling regarding management of the health/illness condition.

  • Communicates the patients health status in a culturally, linguistically and age appropriate manner.

  • Maintains confidentiality while communicating data, plans, and results in a manner that preserves dignity and privacy of patient.

  • Provides a complete and legal record of care.

  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with department staff and other internal and external stake holders.

Education Requirements

  • Completion of training in an Accredited APN Program.

  • Licensure in Massachusetts as a CNP.

  • BLS certification required.

  • Bilingual skills preferred.

  • Experience in a community health and/or ambulatory care setting preferred.
