GENERAL FUNCTION
Purpose of the job is to provide analytical, technical and scientific expertise in the development of new products, materials, new technologies, production equipment and processes concerning manufacturing of thermoplastic ophthalmic lenses using injection molding.
The Development Engineer is responsible for conducting development of new processes and products for ophthalmic lens manufacturing and lead those processes through feasibility, development and pilot.
This role will also lead FEA analysis for fundamental understanding, product / tool / process / development and problem solving in the injection molding and forming processes for ophthalmic lenses.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide analytical, technical and scientific expertise in the development of new products, materials, new technologies, production equipment and processes concerning manufacturing of thermoplastic ophthalmic lenses including injection molding and thermoforming process.
Lead and conduct data analysis and engineering evaluation for development and implementation of ophthalmic lenses through injection molding of laminate structures.
Utilize and demonstrate rigorous data analysis and statistical/scientific approach in process, product and material evaluation.
Utilize DOE techniques in engineering problem solving. Capitalize results using scientific methodology and reporting.
Provide project management skills for the implementation of new products, new materials, new equipment, tooling and process related to injection molding. Including providing support and creating initial cost models for projects and investments.
Provide inputs and reports where applicable for resource and budget planning.
Support all manufacturing sites for any scientific problem solving, data analysis and interpretation.
Support activities to advance automation within EssilorLuxottica sites
Conduct research and development of new processes and products for ophthalmic lens manufacturing and lead those processes through feasibility, development and pilot.
Support and promote innovation and keep abreast of technical advancements
Provide inputs to suport the continous improvement in the manufacturing processes within EssilorLuxottica
Keep abreast with the latest advances in materials, processing and computational fields as applicable to ophthalmic lens manufacturing.
Lead and coordinate external collaboration with Research Institutes/Universities in developing expertise in ophthalmic products.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Engineering Degree
2- 4 years of experience in an engineering field
Broad knowledge of a discipline such as injection molding, plastics engineering or mechanical engineering.
Fundamental understanding of material properties and their relationship with injection molding, or other material processing.
A strong understanding of computational methods used in thermal / structural analysis.
Hands-on approach to problem solving
Strong background in statistical data analysis and use of DOEs for engineering and problem-solving
Ability to mentor and teach team members
Strong interpersonal skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A master’s degree or PHD are considered a plus
