Certified/Licensed Nurse Aide- CNA Job Description Summary Under immediate supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in a variety of manual duties relating to the care of residents on an assigned shift. Employees in this position assist residents with daily personal care. Nurse Aides are also responsible for maintain residents quarters in a clean and orderly condition. Work involves direct patient contact and is performed in accordance with prescribed methods, techniques, and procedures. Essential Functions o Changes, feeds and bathes residents; attending to other personal and grooming needs such as combing hair, trimming nails, brushing teeth, passing bed-pans and helping residents to the bathroom (transferring to and from commodes). o Assists residents in moving within their residents. o Serves meals to residents and feeds those unable to feed themselves, prepares trays for self-feeders. o Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration. o Performs range of motion on residents as ordered. o Turns and positions bed patients according to turning schedules. o Able to lift 50 lbs.. o Assists and encourages residents in obtaining correct goals as stated in Care Plans and module cards. o Cleans up spills on the floor in order to prevent accidents; participates in safety drills. o Notes any unusual changes in resident?s condition and reports to nurse. o Will verbally communicate nursing care problems and concerns to on coming shift on assigned unit. o Keeps linen and utility area clean and in order, empties and cleans urinals and bedpans, empties dirty linen hampers. o Performs incontinence checks on residents as required. o Records data on BM sheet, weight sheet and Nurse Aide flow sheet. o Reports all unusual circumstances that may involve the safety and well being of the residents and co-workers, directly to the nurse on the unit, Clinical Coordinator, Nurse Supervisor, ADON, or DON. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. o Knowledge of nursing assistant practices. o Some knowledge of safety and accident prevention. o Some skill in bathing, feeding, clothing, and caring for residents. o Ability to assist patients with bodily functions. o Ability to work on weekends, holidays and overtime if necessary. o Ability to maintain and keep records o Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. o Some knowledge of spelling, punctuation and grammar. o Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. o Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations with or without a calculator. o Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. o Ability to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations. Essential Requirements and Responsibilities 1. Current LNA/CNA license (In good standing, without disciplinary investigation or actions) 2. Current CPR 3. Current health records to include: current, TB, Hepatitis B and immunization records. 4. Completed criminal background check 5. Completed clinical skills checklist. 6.
