The Underwriter - Senior Associate, Underwriting will assist and mentor Portfolio Managers (PMs) in underwriting, structuring, servicing, and documenting existing credit requests and modifications. S/he is responsible for identifying and analyzing relevant information to assess credit risk, the viability of sources of repayment, determine appropriate loan structures, and mentor portfolio managers.

Within the role, the candidate is expected to review and provide guidance to portfolio managers, who are preparing credit packages with recommendations consistent with bank policy that illustrate well-reasoned analysis. The incumbent will oversee credit reviews, support management, and minimize risk to the organization. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in internal meetings, build, and continue internal partnerships, provide guidance on the deal structure while adhering to risk appetite, and support the customer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Dotted line management of the team

  • QA/QC support and oversight.

  • Perform credit decision review of scored and score-assist requests.

  • Assist with daily scored and score-assist credit assignments to portfolio managers.

  • Review pipeline queues/dashboards of portfolio managers to maintain service level agreement.

  • Assist with daily and ad-hoc requests.

  • Assist with managing portfolio and customer commitments.

  • Assist with mentoring and oversight of portfolio management team.

  • Assist with team procedural documentation, updates, and training.

  • Reviews PM credit packages and supporting documentation to determine if the package adheres to credit standards and meets timely service level agreements (SLA).

EDUCATION -

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Management, Economics, or equivalent field.

WORK EXPERIENCE -

  • 7-9 years in Financial analysis, loan structuring, portfolio management, and/or related experience.

SKILLS & ABILITIES -

  • Comfortable in customer contact situations including escalations and loan restructures.

  • Practical knowledge of credit and risk analysis.

  • Independently reach conclusions and form solutions.

  • Proficiency with computer systems.

  • Knowledge of loan and related legal documents, a plus.

  • Good communication skills and ability to influence others.

  • Ensures all direct reports and colleagues have appropriate knowledge of the bank’s risk appetite.

  • Accountable for timeliness, completeness, quality of projects, processes, products, and services.

  • Remains calm and focused on goals while facing pressures, obstacles, or short-term setbacks.

  • Continues relationships with key individuals to support seamless cross-team workflow.

  • Uses informal networks to gain support for ideas and projects.

  • Acts as a role model by leading by example, being a source of advice and knowledge to the team.

  • Experience with nCino, AFS, Microsoft Access, or equivalent software (would be a plus).
