State of Massachusetts Metal Worker II - Welder in Dorchester, Massachusetts

The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position ofMetal Worker II – Welder, Boston, located at 478 Neponset Avenue, Dorchester, MA. Please submit a cover letter and resume as part of the application process. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs all types welding and metal working as needed. Develops material and labor estimates for assigned projects for the Boston Region. DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Works with mechanics, trades staff, facility & park staff and contractors on agency welding projects such as: a. Utilizes all types of metal including aluminum, steel, iron, galvanized metals, stainless steel, etc. b. Estimates cost and time to complete assigned work orders. c. Properly completes and submits work orders in CAMIS. 2. Fabricates miscellaneous metal products, parts and tools by cutting metal according to blueprints; forging metal by heating and hammering; riveting or welding metal to form desired article using hand and power tools and welding and sheet metal equipment to facilitate the replacement of parts, tools, etc. not readily available. 3. Fabricates, installs and repair railings, benches, brackets and lifeguard chairs; and assists with installation with other equipment, facilities, etc. 4. Minor sheet metal work utilizing power tools and necessary equipment for repairs and installation. 5. Repairs and maintains motor vehicles and snow removal equipment by drilling, tapping, cutting, brazing, riveting and welding steel and sheet metal replacement parts in vehicles and equipment to ensure the safe operation of such equipment. 6. Maintains DCR welding truck, tools, shop area and all equipment provided in clean and workable order, including inventory. 7. Performs related duties such as ordering materials and supplies; determining whether specific materials can be repaired by welding or other means of repairs and/or installation. 8. Uses various software and online applications, dashboards, and state systems including self-service payroll timesheet entry and have a willing to learn new systems as required. 9. Performs related work assignments as required. PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS * Willingness to work with other trades workers and to complete projects or assigned work tasks to completion. * Excellent capability and rapport working with other employees. * Knowledge of metal work and metal work experience. Trades license and/or certifications is a plus. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in metal work, the major duties of which included fabricating and forging metal products, parts or tools, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
