The Senior Director of Strategy and Business Operations will lead and directly supervise a team of professionals across each site in the Global Drug Substance Biologics organization to drive the strategy development and deployment of harmonized principles and practices in alignment with Global Manufacturing Organization (GMO) and GPS strategies. She/he will be a member of the Global DS Biologics senior leadership team and partner with sites across the General Manager Network and corporate GPS functions to lead the development and implantation of the strategic vision and oversee the integration of portfolio projects. The scope includes driving the appropriate level of strategic influence and standardization to gain efficiencies by leveraging Operational Excellence, Learning and Training performance, and Project Management to deliver a Culture of Excellence across the network. She/he will manage budgets, workforce plans and Global DS Biologics Leadership Team meetings and develop and operationalize a transformation roadmap.

Strategy/Project Management Organization (PMO)

  • Lead strategy development and deployment of the strategic plan for the Global Drug Substance Biologics Operations organization in in partnership with the senior leadership team.

  • Direct development, integration and realization of plans associated with GMO and GPS strategies; lead the alignment of clear objectives and key performance metrics and ensure accountability via data analytics and reporting tools.

  • As a member of the leadership team, work with senior leaders across the Biologics sites to identify and prioritize network initiatives that are aligned with the strategic plan.

  • Provide strategic leadership for program governance, management and benefits realization.

Operational Excellence:

  • Develop the Operational Excellence Global Drug Substance Biologics strategy in close partnership with each site OpEX functional leader and aligned to the GPS Strategy.

  • Lead major network-wide operational excellence initiatives driving engagement with operational excellence and cultural initiatives including safety, workplace culture, and communication.

  • Act as a consultant for sites and the leadership team on the use of Lean philosophy, Six Sigma and Change Management.

  • Lead major network business change initiatives to achieve desired business results.

  • Coordinate Value Capture and Transformation across the network; partner with GPS Finance to deliver on targets.

Learning and Training Performance:

  • Responsible for the development and execution of the Learning Excellence program for the Drug Substance Biologics network, in support of individual site level strategies and in alignment with the GPS Learning Council that drives excellence in quality and safety compliance, and technical capabilities across all Operations functions.

  • Implement comprehensive network-wide learning programs and systems to ensure excellent capabilities across all roles and compliance with all regulatory requirements with a focus on agile, flexible, cross-trained workforce.

  • Research and develop new innovative technologies and strategies that enhance the design and delivery of learning content, in line with adult learning principles.

  • Partner with GPS functions in supporting leadership and managerial development tools and training.

Required Experience:

  • 12+ years of operations experience in a complex global environment with progressive managerial experience and a track record of establishing productive relationships internally and externally

  • BS/BA in Technical Field (Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, related Life Sciences or Engineering) with advanced technical degree, MBA, and/or equivalent experiences.

  • Training or certification in Lean/Six Sigma (Black Belt preferred) and at least 5 years leading Continuous Improvement methodologies

  • Professional Project Management certification preferred

  • Proficiency communicating and collaborating at a variety of levels and across global functions.

  • Strong leadership skills with effective feedback and coaching skills, leveraging past supervisor and technical leadership experience.

  • Ability to identify strategic needs, lead all aspects of planning with sound business recommendations and generate alignment with key business partners.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and achieve significant, complex goals and objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a range of technically and culturally diverse people to deliver value added business results

  • Proven ability to manage financial budgets and resources; ability to utilize financial analyses to make good decisions in an operations environment

  • Demonstrated ability to create and drive a compelling strategy through the organization

  • Experience in being the lead change agent in complex transformational activities

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing a geographically dispersed cross-functional organization within an Operations environment

The Senior Director, Strategy and Business Operations will report directly to the Vice President of Global Biologics Drug Substance and is in direct contact with the leadership team members including site General Managers and Plant Director(s). She/he will engage frequently with cross-functional senior leaders across the sites and will partner closely with corporate functions as well (Quality, Supply Chain, MS&T, Product Development, Engineering, Operational Excellence, GMO Strategy and Business Operations leads and others).
