Job SummaryThe Buyer, Bioprocessing is responsible for all aspects of daily purchase order management and is able to solve complex problems with innovation and ingenuity. Supports the Sales/Customer Service, Production and Quality departments to assist in resolution of pricing and product issues. Responsible for purchasing commodity product and specialty components for manufacturing, subcontract operations, and distribution customers. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and prioritizing workload, spending, and use considerable judgment in complex situations.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
Ownership of vendor and part maintenance including vendor and part creation, optimizing settings in ERP system, pricing (purchasing & sales price, and standard cost), and accuracy of information. Trains and reviews work of other Buyers as appropriate to ensure accuracy. Responsible for the creation and updating of purchasing work instructions as appropriate.
Creates new vendors in the ERP system. Ensures appropriate quality questionnaire and responses are received and on file as required by the Integra QMS. Ensures all appropriate financial terms are agreed according to Integra/VWR policy.
Sets up new parts into the ERP system with appropriate vendor information, Integra Product Code, pricing, price breaks, and standard cost. Ensures units of measure are properly set in cases where vendor and Integra UOM are different. Ensures appropriate lead times and lot sizes are set correctly.
Updates purchasing prices, sales price (Distribution parts), and standard cost in the ERP system. Ensures accuracy of information. Ensures appropriate margins are used in determining sales price update.
Daily Purchase order management for assigned vendors
Placing orders, getting confirmations, expediting, and rescheduling orders to ensure system generated and manual purchase orders are aligned to support Customer need dates.
Routinely analyzes the purchasing history, to determine minimum inventory, order quantity, lead time, opportunity for price breaks, and potential future requirements. Collaborates with Customer Service and Engineering as appropriate to optimize the supply chain by offering options to improve lead time and cost.
Owns and resolves the daily tactical supply chain issues; Backorder resolution, Lead time management, Supplier production issues, etc. May complete daily review of stock-outs, accountable for timely resolution of supply chain issues.
Optimize the Procurement process in a high growth environment. Independently look for opportunities to streamline and improve Procurement process.
Serves as liaison between VWR and Suppliers, maintains positive vendor relationships. May evaluate suppliers based on capability, performance and delivery. Works with suppliers to improve cost, quality, delivery, and lead time.
Negotiates and settles with suppliers: damage claims, rejections, losses, returns, over shipments, cancellations, and discontinuations. Collaborates with the appropriate Integra/VWR functional teams to ensure timely resolution of issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business, or Mathematics or equivalent/applicable experience
3-5+ years working in a procurement capacity
Experience with ERP systems, Epicor preferred
APICS/CPIM certification desirable
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)
Proficient in MS office suite (Excel, Access, Word)
Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze large data sets
Solid written and verbal communication skills, work experience in a matrix environment desirable
Ability to gain solid understanding of product and components, vendors, and quality requirements.
Strong analytical and negotiation skills
Formal problem solving training highly desirable, i.e. Six Sigma
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)
Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.
Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
