Bristol-Myers Squibb microbial upstream process development group is seeking an Associate Scientist position that is responsible for manufacturing process development of microbial and new modality assets, which are mostly non-platform. This position will collaborate with groups of scientists and engineers to develop robust and scalable fermentation processes for both early and late stage biologics in BMS’ robust pipeline. This role is within the Biologics Development organization and will be based in Devens, MA.
Specifically, the role is a laboratory-based position to develop fermentation processes in partnership with protein purification development groups for both early and late stage fermentation products. This position is responsible for executing experiments supporting process definition, design, and characterization. The candidate will also have responsibilities in maintaining and optimizing lab workflow and general lab activities.
Hands-on operation of lab scale fermenters for process development
Execution of experiments related to fermentation, optimization, and tech transfer.
Maintain lab environment in clean, safe and orderly fashion
Prepare/review technical documents including development/tech transfer reports, batch records, SOPs and CMC regulatory submissions.
B.S. or M.S. in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or Biophysics
Knowledge of fermentation process development, fermenter operation and scale-up/down, and media development experience is preferred.
Knowledge of statistical experimental design and data analysis
Ability to work collaboratively in a team and matrix environment
Fast learner with intellectual curiosity
Excellent oral and written communication skills
