City of Chicopee Job Description Job Title: WPC Pump Station Operator Department: DPW - Water Pollution Control Grade: 6L (UFCW Laborers) Reports to: WPC Senior Pump Station Operator Prepared: November 2019 SUMMARY: The pump station operator inspects, repairs, and maintains all pumping stations and equipment within the City. Insures operational integrity in order to meet Federal, State, and Local requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the -osition. - Monitors control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage. - Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to achieveoptimal operating requirements. - Operation and maintenance of; pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage. - Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings. - Collects sewage samples and conducts tests as needed. - Operates and maintains power generating equipment to provide electricity for station. - Checks Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO) throughout City. - Operates the Jones Ferry CSO Facility when active and processes all related documentation. - Will be required to make NPDES permit violation reports. - Must observe all safety procedures as it relates to pump station operations/maintenance as well as adhere to allCity safety policies. - Will be required to accept chemical deliveries at the Jones CSO Facility. - Inspects, cleans, paints, repairs and maintains all pumping station equipment, vehicles, and equipment. - Works as an operational team with Treatment plant, Collection system and Flood Control personnel. - Maintains buildings and grounds including but not limited to mowing and painting. - Snow removal/snow plowing/snow shoveling is required any time any day from City streets and at all WPC &Pump Station and more... EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. One to two years experience in a wastewater treatment facility; Use of hand and power tools QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: > Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver?s License > Grade 3 MA Operators License > Collection System (Grade 2) License within one year of hire LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software and Inventory software. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
