Job Description

The Project Planning & Design Manager is responsible for the management of project development, planning, and design for the University’s Annual Capital projects, and strategic space planning of existing campus facilities. This will include identifying and defining stakeholder requirements and direct project management of projects assigned to the Universities Capital Planning and Special Projects Group. The Project Planning & Design Manager will engage and manage outside architectural/engineering design and consulting services and coordinate and lead internal design review meetings to ensure alignment with campus architectural, material, furniture and accessible design standards.

The Project Planning & Design Manager will provide management and leadership for a staff of 4 professional employees in the Capital Planning Group. This requires close coordination with the Special Projects Group to successfully execute assigned projects. He/She will be responsible for FF&E selection / sourcing and quality control of design through all phases of projects. The Project Planning & Design Manager will develop, document, and maintain campus architectural, material, furniture and accessibility standards and oversee the archiving of project documents and campus/building information.

The Project Planning & Design Manager will work with the Space Planning Group to assist Stakeholders with Alteration and Renovation (A&R) requests. He/she will lead design presentations with Senior Administration and Deans. The Project Planning & Design Manager assists the Associate Director and Director of Annual Capital Projects in overall department management and department leadership.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $87,900 to $109,900; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

  • Minimum of ten years of strong project management, planning/design experience, with an emphasis on interior design aesthetic including finishes and furniture selection is preferred.

  • Experience in project scope development, cost estimating, scheduling, and budgeting.

  • Previous experience must be in a position as “responsible manager” for project execution, design solutions, project schedule, client interaction, and project financials.

  • Previous experience managing technical and design professionals.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in fast paced environment with changing priorities.

  • Previous experience within higher education is preferred.

  • Position requires excellent presentation skills and ability to interact effectively with Senior Leadership.

  • Experience with MEP/FP system coordination.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project.

  • Experience with PMweb Project Management software and Revit a plus.

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Architecture, Architecture or Planning, Construction Management; NCIDQ Certification preferred.
