Job Description
Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives and External Relations serves as a strategist and advocate for the Boston College Lynch School of Education and Human Development. S/he directs strategic initiatives at the Lynch School and creates synergies between Lynch School programs and initiatives within and outside BC. Working closely with the Associate Deans, Chairs and other key constituents, s/he provides strategic vision, leadership and direction to link with and respond to new opportunities for the Lynch School. Closely coupled with these responsibilities is the development of new initiatives and revitalization of existing programs that serve K-12 education, higher education, educational leadership, applied developmental psychology, counseling psychology, educational assessment and educational policy. S/he serves as the liaison of the dean’s office to Development with a focus on donor and alumni outreach and events. The Associate Dean will research, plan, define, articulate, update, present and manage the Lynch School strategic plan; oversee organizational effectiveness; assess, measure and determine organizational metrics; identify and propose strategic initiatives; and initiate and carry out assessments of the impact of the school’s initiatives.
External Relations
Provide leadership in identifying, organizing, and implementing community and organizational partnerships for the School
Provide leadership and supervision of the School’s planning and evaluation activities, including identification of external agencies
Represent the school at external meetings, committees, and boards as needed to help the school advance its strategic initiatives
Serve as the liaison of the dean’s office to Advancement
Develop and oversee alumni network building
Accompany the dean to select fundraising events
Serve as external liaison for the Boston College Lynch School of Education and Human Development with colleges and universities around the country
Develop conferences, workshops, consortia and thought leadership-oriented events that catalyze existing programs and increase visibility of programmatic offerings for alumni, prospective students, and the larger practitioner-scholar community
Strategic Initiatives
Lead the development of external strategies, plans, programs (including resource needs) that support the overall strategic goals of the School
Coordinate with appropriate department chairs and deans to establish a summer course portfolio that serves existing students, attracts prospective students, and meets a particular, strategic market need
Develop and execute strategies to maximize synergies between Lynch School of Education and Human Development programs and other programs across the Boston College community (including degree programs, center-based initiatives, and professional development opportunities)
Provide strategic counsel and support, as needed, for outreach initiatives of the School
Create synergies between the Lynch School programs and initiatives
Work with the Dean and others to build a more collaborative, team-based culture focused on shared goals
Provide counsel and support to manage emerging external issues
Execute other ad hoc and strategic projects related to rankings, reporting, and accreditation
Conduct research, and synthesize information to facilitate decision-making
Initiate, plan, and manage special projects and special events
As requested, manage special projects of a highly confidential and sensitive nature
Work collaboratively on and oversee large research initiatives that involve other BC Schools together with other institutions
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $151,300 to $189,150; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
Qualifications
10-15 years of progressively more responsible positions in related organizations
Master’s degree in business, higher education or similar field of study required, doctorate preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required
Experience with constituent/customer relationship management processes and systems
Knowledge of K-12 and higher education, educational leadership, applied developmental psychology, educational assessment, related public policy and international education
Knowledge of web operations, relevant software, and graphic design
Proven ability to lead external strategy in higher education or nonprofit environment
Experience translating complex ideas and topics into accessible, actionable initiatives
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Strong record of overseeing programmatic assessment with experience in assessment methodology, educational research design, accountability issues and student learning outcomes
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, administrators and staff across diverse groups
Proven experience in the design, organization and management of complex projects
Demonstrated and outstanding analytical skills; experience in collecting and analyzing marketing data and making programmatic decisions based on these analyses
An ability to strategically build a program, to implement, to drive towards numerical goals and to produce outstanding results
