Assistant Dean

The Assistant Dean of Clinical Placement and Community Partnerships supports the clinical education of all students within the Connell School by ensuring that each student has the optimal placement in a clinical setting, a key component of the academic curriculum. They report to the Dean and serve as a partner to the Academic Dean(s) to build and sustain relationships with network hospital administrators and clinical placement sites, managing the placement operations of all students within the School. Clinical education is an academic requirement for all students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs, which can only be accomplished via placement in a clinical setting.

The Assistant Dean has influence over the student clinical experience and thus, important aspects of the curriculum throughout the Connell School. The Assistant Dean and their team of Assistant Director(s) and Clinical Placement Specialist(s) will work closely with the graduate program directors (NP and CRNA) and undergraduate teachers of record to ensure that students are placed at clinical sites where needed, ensuring that learning objectives can be accomplished. In addition to supporting the clinical placement needs of our graduate and undergraduate students, the person in this position may also assist in identifying and placing students in clinical settings where DNP projects can be accomplished.

The Assistant Dean oversees the contracts and letters of agreement for clinical placements. They will work with the Office of the General Council and Dean to ensure that all contracts are current and appropriately stored and retrievable in accordance with State Board of Nursing and the regulations of all other accrediting bodies.

The Assistant Dean oversees all technology solutions implemented for the purpose of clinical placement and collaborates with university IT professionals as needed. The Assistant Dean uses technology to generate and disseminate reports to help with evaluation of students, faculty and preceptors. These reports provide data that are critical to the assessment of our clinical placement processes and the overall relationships with clinical placement partners.

The Assistant Dean provides strategic direction and recommendations to the Dean and the Connell Leadership Group to expand access to clinical placements and strengthen community partnerships for mutual benefit of our partners. They work with the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration on the unit’s budget and any extraordinary financial matters.

This position manages three other positions and must oversee their job functions and productivity, specifically helping them prioritize their time. The Assistant Dean must think strategically about clinical placements, helping to ensure that students complete enough clinical hours to graduate. The contracts required of our clinical placement office are complex at times, and the Assistant Dean must have a basic understanding of the requirements of our contract and use their best judgment to ensure that the appropriate language is included in the contracts. The person in this position will be required to oversee the technology used to operationalize the clinical placement processes. Finally, the Assistant Dean will be expected to identify ongoing performance improvement opportunities.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $99,450 to $124,300; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

This position requires a master’s degree in nursing, management, higher education or a related and applicable field.

5-7 years of experience with increasing responsibility

Management of staff preferred

Knowledge of nursing a plus
