The Neighborhood Developers, Inc Americorps- Rapid Reemployment & Career in Chelsea, Massachusetts

Rapid Reemployment and Career Development Americorps CONNECT seeks an Americorps volunteer to deliver career services to low- and moderate-income residents of Chelsea and Revere. After training by experienced job coaches, the Americorps volunteer will assist job seekers from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience to conduct successful job searches and obtain employment or enroll in job training programs. Specifically, the Americorps volunteer will provide 1:1 career coaching and provide high quality facilitation of workshops incorporating best practices in adult education and training along with referrals to other trainers. This position is located in Chelsea, MA with some work in Revere, MA and some services being delivered remotely. Both communities were hard hit by the pandemic - with a great deal of job loss and financial instability for our low income, largely immigrant communities - so this is a particularly important time for work force development and the Americorps volunteer could make a critical difference in our constituent families' lives while learning valuable new skills. This is an exciting time to join a growing team at CONNECT dedicated to both rapid reemployment and building long-term sustainable jobs while working in coalition with other partners. Our Workforce Development Unit is new and consists of a manager, two jobs navigators and a VISTA volunteer. We partner extensively with local grassroots organizations as well as the city governments for each city. We are also involved in three workforce coalitions, including one focused on systemic change. DUTIES: -Provide one-on-one advising to job seekers, with a focus on matching their interests and skills to suitable employers. (As noted above, training will be provided on this). -Edit resumes or, if necessary, help job seekers create a resume, and cover letters. -Help job seekers with applications, including providing guidance on applying through online portals. -Provide interview coaching. -Organize and present workshops on job search skills. -Refer clients to appropriate trainings as necessary (e.g. ESOL, GED or industry-specific trainings). -Conduct employer outreach and forge relationships with hiring managers. -Help organize job fairs and other events. -Provide advice to Workforce Development Coalitions on changes necessary to foster better hiring in our region. QUALIFICATIONS: -Bilingual in English in Spanish or at least advanced proficiency in both -Demonstrated ability to interact positively and effectively with a variety of people from different backgrounds including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status -Strong listening skills and empathy -Excellent written and oral communication skills -Great time management skills -Able to work both as part of a team and independently -Effective computer skills.
