Summary
Spaulding Rehabilitation Network’ chaplains are spiritual care providers serving patients, families, visitors, and staff. Professional chaplains help patients to name their struggles, tell their stories, and connect with sources of strength, comfort and healing in which they trust. Chaplains collaborate as members of the interdisciplinary patient care teams, provide spiritual care to people of all traditions, cultures, and beliefs.
Key Responsibilities
Spiritual care and support is personalized to each individual to meet his/her unique needs.
Collaboration with team members is fostered to meet the holistic health care needs of patients.
Documentation is recorded in the electronic medical record per established guidelines.
Culturally-competency crisis intervention, grief counseling, emotional and spiritual support and guidance are offered to patients, families, and staff.
End-of -life spiritual support and outreach are provided to both patients and team members.
Memorial services (and other bereavement care) are offered for next of kin and affected staff members to remember patients and staff who have died – per facility needs.
Interfaith prayer services are organized for special occasions. Worship services are organized for major holidays of different faith traditions – per facility needs.
Standards of Conduct which form the basis of Spaulding’s Organizational Integrity Program are adhered to in all chaplain activities.
The Spiritual Care department’s mission is promoted and supported.
Additional department, organization, or network activities are completed per established objectives.

Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
Education/Degree
Required
Master’s Degree in Theology, Pastoral Counseling, Divinity or related field required.
Completion of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
Preferred
- Board certification by one of the national Chaplaincy organizations.
Experience
Required
- One years’ experience working as a chaplain or chaplain resident, preferably in a healthcare setting
Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)
Required
Computer proficiency for electronic documentation, reading emails and completing e-learning in HealthStream.
Competence in ministering with diverse population.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently, be self-directed.
Ability to contribute as a member of a team (department, patient care teams, committees).
Preferred
Familiarity using EPIC charting system.
Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
