This position will report to the Underwriting Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day administrative responsibilities within the Underwriting Department. The Underwriting Assistant works with the Distribution team to ensure all submissions are complete, and will manage the workflow within the department. This position is critical in ensuring the Underwriters are working with all the necessary information, and as a result, provide our clients with timely and accurate proposals and group policy renewals.

The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for providing timely support to the Underwriting Department from the pre-sale through the post-sale process, for both the Workplace and Individual Solutions teams, and demonstrates the highest levels of service professionalism in all they do.

The Underwriting Assistant is expected to:

  • Screen all submissions to the Underwriting Department for completeness.

  • Process and assign submissions to the Underwriting team; help the Underwriting Manager monitor and manage the case-assignment workload.

  • Coordinate and monitor all submissions to ensure their timely completion.

  • Set up all private sector renewal business prior to Underwriting review; work with other departments when census discrepancies are found in existing groups.

  • Help track and process other requests, including but not limited to: benefit summaries, policy amendments, renewal letter requests, pending reports, database entries, etc.

  • Special Projects, reports, and other work as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience: Entry level - previous insurance industry experience is a plus.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Strong business knowledge.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively build and extend relationships.

  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with a strong decision-making capacity; demonstrated ability to take initiative with a “can do” attitude.

  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to context, substance and detail.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Shows initiative with the ability to create and implement changes that will improve workflow.

  • Working knowledge of Boston Mutual Workplace Solutions or related industry products, enrollment systems and administrative processes preferred.

  • Exceptional skills using MS Office.

Certifications/Licensures: None required, but pursuit of LOMA courses will be expected.

Hybrid Work Model

At our Canton location, employees will be on site Monday - Thursday starting 5/1/23. At our Omaha location, employees will be on site 2 days per week.
