UL, LLC Laboratory Chemist in Canton, Massachusetts

  • Follows complex defined test plans and datasheets utilizing a single technology.

  • Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results.

  • Records and explains test results and completes test report.

  • Serves as Lead for test programs as assigned.

  • Communicates project status and results as needed.

  • Holds responsibility for defining test plan, report completion and accuracy, meeting of agreed deadlines, and managing project related activities.

  • Examines complex customer samples and learns to operate appropriate tests for each case.

  • Communicates with internal/external customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.

  • Understands and is able to explain specific test standards and product technology for scope of responsibility.

  • Assists lab staff with test setups and instrument operation based on test plans and instructions.

  • Trains other lab staff on these test procedures or instrumentation.

  • Operates and maintains complex test and support instruments appropriately to measure and test customer samples with the necessary help.

  • Performs complex maintenance on designated test instruments and laboratory area.

  • May perform calibration of test instruments.

  • For a single testing technology, integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.

  • Communicates with management and technical staff to provide suggestions for new instruments, processes, and forms to improve accuracy and efficiencies.

  • Assists Senior Laboratory Chemists in the implementation / validation of new test methods and follows safe chemical hygiene practices.

  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Required: Bachelors' degree or diploma from an accredited university through a formal program of study in Chemistry or related discipline including Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Organic/Inorganic Chemistry, Material Science but not limited to these disciplines only plus generally four years of directly related work experience or equivalent education and experience.

  • Required: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.

  • Required: Highly effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with customers.

  • Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

  • Required: Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.

  • Highly preferred: Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs.

  • Highly preferred: Proven ability to be innovative and creative.

  • Highly preferred: Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor more junior laboratory staff.

  • Preferred: Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory Personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.

  • Preferred: Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.
