Minimum of 7 years of IT experience with 5+ in applications development
Expert experience in WordPress

Exceptional interpersonal and project management skills, and a proven record of working collaboratively with a wide range of constituents
Self-starter who is able to work as part of a larger, complex and evolving team and to balance interests and needs of a variety of stakeholders
Broad technical delivery expertise, and experience with agile practices
Demonstrated ability to plan and manage complex, time-sensitive projects
Experience with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager preferred
Experience in Pantheon, Algolia, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Docker
Experience in web accessibility compliance

The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) comprises several entities serving about 30,000 students annually. The Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, the Harvard Professional Development Programs and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement allow Harvard to serve the learning needs of students across their life. This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. DCE is currently trialing hybrid workplace models with a minimum of 2 days per week on campus, and will actively support some remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business: CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT) where business and team needs allow. DCE may adjust these as necessary or appropriate. Furthermore, individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing Services in the Office of Marketing & Strategy at Harvard's Division of Continuing Education (DCE), the Web Development Manager serves as a key member of the team responsible for setting the technical and strategic direction of DCE's websites. The Web Development Manager performs front and back-end coding, leads a small team of developers, and provides direction to shape the future of each website keeping in mind departmental and organizational goals. A successful candidate will be well-organized, able to translate business processes and needs into technical solutions and have the ability to build strong partnerships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally.
Leads, manages, and trains on the coding and development of websites in Wordpress; sets and manages deadlines for technical projects, alongside the content team
Sets technical direction for DCE public-facing websites
Stays up-to-date on current best practices regarding website features and functionality
Develops and maintains expertise in PHP; stays current on standards for web usability, design, coding, CSS, scripting languages, browser and mobile compatibility, and accessibility issues; must be flexible to learning new skills as needed
Develops and deploys testing and debugging strategies to ensure that sites are consistent and accessible to the widest number of users and devices
Partners with MIS department on integration of student information services (SIS; Banner) and Salesforce data into websites, and addresses ongoing performance and programming updates
Serves as primary point of contact for internal and external constituents and vendors, providing expertise related to SIS data imports, noncredit program registration systems, and troubleshooting issues with web-hosting vendor
Manages a small team of front and back-end web developers, providing overall guidance and direction, including delivering positive and developmental feedback proactively
Works with digital marketing team to develop strategic approaches to website analytics, tracking, and tagging for marketing campaigns and business intelligence/data gathering
