TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Mechanical Engineering (MechE) (multiple openings), to join a fast-paced, interdisciplinary, collaborative project developing the next generation of drug delivery systems in the Traverso Lab. Will design and prototype micro- to milli-scale devices using additive/subtractive/molding techniques; functionally characterize devices using wet-lab techniques (bacterial culture/quantification); summarize and document research results by writing standard operating procedures for the efficient development of successive device generations; present research findings at laboratory meetings; research and provide content for presentations and grant progress reports and fulfill internal request for information; conduct literature reviews to support above work and possibly co-author manuscripts; and ensure safety standards/procedures are followed, prepare lab for inspections, and correct problems. May assist with materials procurement and planning lab events.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical/biological/biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a field directly related to the work; at least two years of specialized lab experience (may include experience gained as an undergraduate); commitment to producing accurate and high-quality protocols and data; strong time management skills; ability to prioritize own work to meet deadlines, maintain a safe work environment, and work independently with minimal supervision; and willingness to learn new scientific tools and techniques quickly. PREFERRED: experience with device prototyping, proficiency with device design tools, experience with molecular and cell biology techniques, and experience with (bio)material characterization.
