353683BR Job ID: 353683BR Job Description: 25 Cell and Gene Therapies have been approved so far, but the FDA believes that we are just at the beginning and expects an approval rate of 10 - 20 Cell and Gene Therapies per year by 2025. As an expert within the Engineered Therapeutics Group of Chemical Biology & Therapeutics in NIBR-Cambridge, you will be part of a team developing the next generation of Cell and Gene Therapies. Within the last 2 years our group has made major progress in developing a modular technology platform, SmartTherapeutics, that allows the rapid testing of self-regulating Cell and Gene Therapies. In addition, we prototyped technologies that will allow us to deliver these circuits to cells using currently available vector technologies. Alongside our colleagues in the Ophthalmology department, we are now initiating in vivo experiments to show the feasibility of our approach. The Engineered Therapeutics Group is embedded in the Genome Science Home which consists of more than 60 scientists across Basel, San Diego, and Cambridge, with diverse expertise from genome engineering, next gen sequencing, and high throughput genetic screens. You will focus on 1) further expanding the SmartTherapeutics toolbox as well as pushing forward the deployment of this technology in collaboration with multiple disease areas and 2) developing new tools for epigenetic editing. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Develop and optimize novel sensors for our SmartTherapeutics platform. - Develop novel tools for epigenetic editing in collaboration with internal /external experts as needed to execute on proof-of-concept studies. - Conceive novel project concepts, build and lead a cross-functional team for carrying out the strategy, including significant leading from the bench. - Participate in due diligence teams to evaluate potential in-licensing or partnering opportunities - Communicate effectively with diverse project teams, and present to departmental and institutional leadership. \n\n\n\n Position Title: SynBio/Gene Therapy Expert (Principal Scientist) Minimum requirements: What you’ll bring to the role: - PhD training in synthetic biology and gene editing. Direct, hands-on experience with developing and testing synthetic biology applications in mammalian cells is highly desired. - Knowledge and experience (either direct or via collaboration) in developing zinc finger or TALE proteins for genome targeting is highly valued. - Demonstrated leadership and/or mentoring experience. - Comfort in a collaborative, collegial, non-hierarchical, highly-dynamic matrixed environment. - Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak to audiences and collaborators at all levels, internally or externally. Desirable Skills: - Knowledge of and/or experience in epigenetic regulation.
