The Mechanisms of Cancer Resistance Thematic Research Center at BMS is one of the fundamental research and early development engines delivering oncology therapeutics to patients. The scientists at this state-of-the-art research and development site in Cambridge focus on novel tumor intrinsic targets and pathways for tumors that are refractory to current Immuno-Oncology and Oncology therapies and implement our discovery platforms across all of our therapeutic areas of focus. We are a fully integrated drug discovery through translational and early clinical development organization which exploits state-of-the-art in vitro, in vivo and ex-vivo models of cancer biology to identify and validate targets. We partner closely with colleagues in Translational Medicine, Informatics and Predictive Sciences and Early Clinical Development to generate biomarker and patient enrichment hypotheses to enable efficient decision making in early clinical trials. We are optimally positioned to complement the world-class translational expertise, biology, and leading academic research centers in the area .

We are seeking a highly motivated Sr. Associate Scientist with a strong biology and cell-based assay background to join the MOCR Oncology Discovery Biology group (ODB II) team. This individual will design, validate, execute, and interpret novel cell-based assays supporting biology target validation. This individual will be able to work on cross-functional drug discovery teams, closely interacting with colleagues from different functions, including chemistry, LDO, DMPK, and pharmacology. In addition, the candidate will collaborate within LDO and across project teams to help shape the in vitro screening strategy, identify appropriate assay detection formats, and develop high throughput assays using cutting-edge automation platforms. The ideal candidate will have solid hands-on experience in HTRF, BRET, luminescence, Fluorescence, ALPHA technology, MSD, and qPCR assay formats. Prior experience in running high-content imaging and FACS-based assays is a plus. This is a laboratory-based position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues across R&D to develop high-quality cell-based assays.

  • Adapt these assays for high throughput formats.

  • Execute routine cell-based screening assays to ensure rapid data delivery.

  • Analyze, interpret, and effectively report data at team meetings.

  • Troubleshoot assays to ensure high-quality control.

  • Interface closely with disease biology colleagues to ensure assays and screening efforts are aligned to the scientific project goals.

  • Lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and methods that push the boundaries of complex cell-based screening.

  • Interface with Informatics and automation colleagues proactively to drive the evolution of screening platforms and ensure adequate maintenance of the cell-based assay infrastructure.

Key Experiences and Qualities :

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in developing various functional cell-based signaling assays in primary cells and engineered cells.

  • Experience with automated liquid handlers, plate readers, software and robotics is highly desirable.

  • Expertise in databases, data analysis & analytics, and specialized analysis tools is preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot experimental problems independently is required.

  • High content image screening and flow cytometry platforms experience is a plus.

  • Self-motivated and a proven ability to work in a multifunctional team setting.

  • Detail-oriented, highly organized with the ability to run multiple projects.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability and desire to master new skills, methods, and technologies that enhance departmental capabilities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 4+ years of academic / industry experience

  • Master's Degree and 2+ years of academic /industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in molecular biology, cell biology, pharmacology, or a related field

  • MS with 2+ years of relevant research experience in assay development & execution, preferably in drug discovery in industry settings

  • Highly self-motivated & fueled by a fundamental interest in contributing to science in general and drug discovery in particular.
