  • with infrastructure support related to network, server admin, operating system support and hardware

  • log aggregation/SIEM tools a plus (e.g. Splunk)

  • TCP/IP networking knowledge: networking topology, protocols and services (e.g., TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, ACLs, etc.) 

  • Good leadership skills and solutions oriented 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Detail oriented and diligent

  • Some exposure to public cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure)

Preferred:

  • Experience with Building Management and telemetry, physical security technologies, data acquisition software, security cameras, etc., and a programming or scripting language

  • Entrepreneurial by nature with a strong sense of ownership 

  • Higher education experience

Position Description:Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) is a community of Information Technology professionals committed to delivering service and technological solutions in support of teaching, learning, research and administration. This position will support applications and systems within HUIT’s Operational Technology portfolio. Operational Technologies (OT) are technologies that monitor or control things in our physical environment. They include such things as: building management systems, industrial control systems, lab monitoring and control systems, etc. This position is part of a team providing support for existing OT systems, and involved in deploying new OT systems. You will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical systems and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security.

The Senior System Administrator is responsible for building and maintaining servers relating to the central Building Management System environments of the University which now includes two major systems: Siemens Desigo CC and Schneider EcoStruxure.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Build-out and maintenance of a large number of servers (over 50 servers), for all BMS production and test environments including: 

  • All BMS server components, Automated patching server, and encryption/certificates/CRLs to secure all environments 

  • Microsoft Remote Desktop Services deployment 

  • Integration and management of the OU for the new BMS systems in University AD 

  • Coordination with business stakeholders, highly technical colleagues, and working with third party technology teams 

  • Investigation and resolution some of the most complex technical issues we have in HUIT- OT infrastructure

  • in the 24/7 support rotation and support activities as needed to ensure that customer service levels are met.

  • Research, design, and implement technical solutions to deliver business requirements 

  • Identify opportunities to improve and simplify applications portfolio and implement related enhancements 

  • Contribute to creation and maturing of software development best practices and new technologies 

  • Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external clients and to mentor junior staff

This position has been designated as a primarily remote position. While this position is primarily remote, travel to campus may be necessary based on business needs and the nature of work.
