Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Cambridge, Massachusetts


Azure Data Governance team is building new platform capabilities for data privacy and governance across the Azure stack. For our customers to maintain control and compliance over their data, we are making a big bet on building privacy features that enable compliant asset management, complete with discovery, classification, and data lineage tracking, to enable better data-driven decisions by the enterprises. We need engineers who care deeply about our customers and want to build services in a way that empowers our customers, while ensuring compliance and privacy, to help build strong trust.

We are looking for passionate and committed Software Engineers with distributed systems experiences to join us as we evolve our state-of-the-art data privacy and governance services. You will gain experience building high-scale, low-latency and reliable Azure services that deal with big-data in the cloud. You will get to work on the full stack using the latest technologies and work alongside a team of highly talented engineers. This is a great opportunity for you to help us build platform features related to data privacy and governance for the next generation of the data catalog. Below are some of the responsibilities on this role; come join us on this exciting journey to build an innovative product.

  • As a key developer on the platform team, responsible for building core services that enables fundamental features to delight our customers.

  • Embrace new tech and frameworks to build modern scalable and secure services that integrate with other partner Azure eco-system.

  • Work closely with product manager and designer on the requirements, leverage the inhouse/open-source components to meet the functional needs.

  • Enable telemetry to learn customer usage patterns and issues. Engage with beta customers to help try the feature and gather feedback for further improvements.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or IT technical discipline OR 7+ years of internship or 7+ years of industry engineering experience.

  • 7 + years of programming experience in Java OR C++ OR C OR object-oriented programming

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building and shipping production grade software or services.

  • Experience building and operating online services and fault-tolerant distributed systems.

  • Experience creating and shipping V1 products using modern development practices.

  • Experience using agile methodologies or test-driven development (TDD).

  • Great curiosity and willingness to question.

  • Experience with Open-Source Big Data Stack such as Hadoop, HIVE, SPARK, HBASE etc is a plus but not required.

  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms and distributed systems
