Google Senior Software Engineer, Privacy Sandbox in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.

  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

  • 3 years of experience with network protocols.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.

  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.

  • Experience with Go readability or equivalent.

  • Experience with Android development.

  • Understanding of private and public key cryptography.

We are the Private Networking team, part of the Privacy Sandbox. We build some of the world's most heavily-used VPN and proxy products. Our projects often involve tight collaborations with other parts of Google: Pixel, Android networking, Chrome, Search, Ads.

The Privacy Sandbox initiative aims to create technologies that both protect people's privacy online and give companies and developers tools to build thriving digital businesses. Our team is dedicated to strengthening the Web and Android platform against tracking and fingerprinting, while also developing new privacy-preserving APIs to support personalization and measurement on the web. We are committed to collaborating with stakeholders in the industry to develop and implement viable, alternative solutions in a way that protects the privacy of users while also ensuring the continued vitality of the web.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Design, implement and maintain back-end systems for VPNs and proxies.

  • Work on our Android app and the Android framework to make the product as a whole successful.

  • Design and run A/B experiments to evaluate the benefit of back-end or front-end changes. Ensure we have suitable metrics in place to make good decisions.

  • Become familiar with our team's projects, review designs and help unblock Software Engineers across the team. Mentor or supervise Software Engineers when needed and help the team identify potential issues early.

  • Collaborate with other Google teams and with external companies.
