IBM Senior Security Software Engineer in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate internally detected and customer reported security vulnerabilities to assess severity of threat to the production environment

  • Work with support and development to ensure timely response is provided to customer in the event of security vulnerabilities, and prepare a remediation plan for each incident. Deploy and maintain certificates, cipher suite configurations, and any other systems related security. Manage security related cases and provide timely communication to the customer.

  • Recommend and implement new security solutions and any enhancements to existing security solutions in accordance with standard best operating procedures.

  • Act as an advocate for the company's security vision via regular written and in-person communications with associates.

  • Develop strong relationship with customer and SevOne technical teams to evaluate best solutions to security incidents

  • Work with customer support teams to plan and execute technical patches / fixes / upgrades to the production environment to address security issues

  • Develop processes and procedures to proactively monitor for security issues

  • Audit existing Information Security controls to validate they are following best practices.

  • Develop processes and procedures for incident response Participate in the creation, implementation, maintenance and enforcement of security documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures.)

  • Work with product managers and development teams to ensure that best practices for security considerations are incorporated in product planning / lifecycles

  • Participate in the planning and design of security architecture.

  • Participate in the planning and design of an enterprise Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan.

  • Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new security solutions and attack vectors.

  • Maintain up-to-date baselines for the secure configuration and operations of all in-place devices and solutions.

Perform other duties as required or directed

  • Contribute to architecture and planning for customer technical infrastructure

  • Rotating on call for assistance with incidents reporting outside of business hours

  • Contribute to product support as required

If you are hired into a Colorado work location, the anticipated compensation range for the position ($113,000 - $214,000) is based on a full-time schedule. Your ultimate compensation may vary depending on your job-related skills and experience. For part time roles, the compensation will be adjusted appropriately.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 5+ years of professional working experience. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent is preferred.

  • Self-motivated and highly ambitious

  • Ability to balance multiple project deliverables

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Excellent teamwork and people skills

  • Critical thinking & problem-solving skills

  • Ability and experience developing software solutions using at a minimum one programming language such as Java, Golang, Python, PHP, Perl/Bash, Ansible scripting and C++ Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills

  • Understanding of security controls at the application level, operating system, services, and network

  • Familiarity with standard security processes and operations like threat modeling, penetration testing, DDoS protection mechanisms, TLS certificate lifecycle management, etc.

  • Experience implementing or integrating general application security API's. protocols, and IDM systems such as Active Directory (AD), LDAP, SAML, OAuth, SSO, etc

  • Knowledge of PKI systems

  • Hands on experience and knowledge of VMware and Linux

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Security certification (CISSP, etc.)

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent

  • Experience securing Centos, and RHEL

  • Expertise securing applications in commercial cloud-based environments

  • Security testing automation experience

  • Highly scalable distributed systems architecture knowledge
