Job Description

AbbVie Immunology is expanding its early discovery (Transformational and Translational Immunology Discovery/TTID-Systems Immunology) team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. TTID is focused on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases through computational analysis of human disease tissue derived datasets, and through validating targets using humanized experimental approaches.

Our team is looking for a candidate with existing academic or industry experience in multicolor flow cytometry and high-throughput spatial proteomics, who is willing to learn and develop new techniques and learn deep analysis using different approaches. Candidates will be expected to have experience isolating and characterizing human immune cells. This position will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and requires passion, attention to detail, prior hands-on experience, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop tailored flow cytometry and spectral cytometry panels to address specific biological questions within target identification and validation.

• Perform tailored experiments on CyTOF with more than 50 markers.

• Perform spatial proteomics (IMC) using FF/FFPE tissue slides in collaboration with Pathology department.

• Incorporate relevant external sources (literature, patents, conferences) and state-of-the art technologies and theories to solve scientific questions within target identification and validation.

• Author and review technical reports, protocols, manuscripts, and other key documents.

• Interpret findings and effectively present scientific data, concepts, and recommendations to various internal audiences. May attend or present at external conferences.

• Collaborate with a team of computational biologist and data scientist to design, generate, and interpret high-throughput data.

• Work in AbbVie’s matrix environment and support activities for different groups across the organization in addition to the role in the Immune Profiling Center, which may include lead designing and alignment meetings.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• PhD with experience in Immunology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.

• Hands-on experience isolating human blood cells, cell culture and multi-color flow cytometry.

• Hands-on experience with CyTOF to barcode/multiplex, and profile 10s of samples using 50+ markers.

• Hands-on experience with IMC to perform spatial proteomics on multiple types of tissue.

• Perform analysis of flow cytometric, CyTOF and IMC datasets.

• Ability to manage a growing flow core.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Design and streamline methods to stain and run different type of samples (PBMCs, tissue, cultured cells, etc.).

• Support sorting needs of cells from different type of samples (PBMCs, tissue, cultured cells, etc.)

• Interest in learning or familiarity with R programming is preferred.

• Demonstrated track record for publications in Immunology and high-throughput biology.

• The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
